JAYTON RETURNS TO STATE WITH THRILLING VICTORY OVER TEXLINE

Both of these two teams, Jayton and Texline, have been the cream of the crop in 1A the entire season so it was fitting both meet for a trip to the Alamodome for the State Tournament. This was a battle to the end of the whistle in the fourth!

In the first quarter, Jayton and Texline both exchanged baskets in a hot leg contested quarter that saw Hayden Drumm of Texline score eight in the period and Sean Stanaland of Jayton score six in the period.

In the second quarter, the game picked up a little as Texline scored 13 and the Jaybirds scored 11 to go into the half with the Tornadoes leading, 25-22 In the contest. It was evident that this one would be very close throughout.

In the third quarter Jayton made a run and closed the quarter only down two points as Colt Gentry and

Stanaland made key buckets and defensive stops throughout those eight minutes and were poised to win the game and get back to state as they did last year.

In the last period, Jayton went on a 9-2 run to take the lead from Texline until Drumm splashed a big three for the Tornadoes to give them a 39-38 lead with 3:22 to go. After that bucket, Jayton went to work as their scored 7-straight points to take a 45-40 lead with 1:06 left in the game. The Jaybirds hit their free throws and held off Texline, 51-46, to win the 1A Regional Title and advance to state for the second-consecutive year.
