Last year, Sundown lost to New Deal, Abernathy and West Texas: three teams that went deep in the playoffs last season. This season, I think Sundown will make a serious run in 2A DI with a myriad of players returning on both sides of the ball. Yes. Sundown lost some great players including Steven Quintanilla, who is now at University of Incarnate Word on a track scholarship but the players they have coming back... Lookout!

The Roughnecks return one of the. most versatile Quarterbacks in the state in Christian Huey; who passed for 34 touchdowns and 2,590 yards in his junior Season. Gus Davis is a serious target out of the slot with over 1,000 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns as well. On the line, the Roughnecks have Dylan Day who is the best lineman in 2-2A DI and players like Jonathan Golighlty to anchor the lines as well.

Can they win 2-2A DI? Yes they can. In the second year under Coach Adam Cummings' offense, the Roughnecks should put up more high-scoring numbers than they did last year as they become more comfortable in his system. The defense will get their early test against Abernathy and after that game the 'Necks should really go on a run meet up with New Deal for the 2-2A DI crown on the line in the last week of the season. Last season the Roughnecks got punched in the mouth in their 61-19 loss to the Lions, this season should see a reversal on that score and a district-clinching win for Sundown. Now I may be wrong, but looking at film on Sundown, they have young players like Cade Conway and Kaden Marshall that are about to have breakout seasons for the #RoughNeckNation
