IS ROOSEVELT GOING TO STAY ATOP 4-3A DII, OR IS IT WIDE-OPEN THIS YEAR?

Last season, this district was one of the best to keep up with as Abernathy, Idalou and Roosevelt were all ranked in the top ten of 3A DII at one point during 2021 and at the same time for a couple of weeks. This season, Littlefield comes into the district once again to add more intrigue to this fall's district run for the champion in 4-3A DII. I have some questions to ask and those answers will determine the district winner and, more importantly, will any of these teams make a legit run for a title shot like Coach Landers' Eagles last year?

QUESTION ONE:

WILL ROOSEVELT REPEAT THAT HISTORICAL SEASON THEY HAD IN 2021?

I have to be honest: No, the Eagles won't have another 14-1 season and a run to the State Semifinals in 3A DII. Losing Alex Trevino and JJ Diaz will be tough for Roosevelt to overcome, but what about not having Nate Gensler and his dad not return as well? Those are some serious losses on both sides of the ball for the Eagles and Coach Landers. But never say never because if you can't stop that run up the gut, you're in trouble!

QUESTION TWO:

IDALOU HAS 16 STARTERS BACK, CAN THEY GET BACK TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN IN DISTRICT PLAY?

Now, I think the most talented player in this district is Malakhi Brisco for the Wildcats and he should have at least 15 touchdowns on the ground and Gage Pounds can play some ball too! What will be the attack for Idalou now with a new Coach as Jeff Lofton departed for West Plains? I think these guys will win the district this fall. I just trust their tradition and they could make a run this fall if everything falls their way. I like the Cats!

QUESTION THREE:

HOW SOLID WILL ABERNATHY BE AT QUARTERBACK?

Now, I have been covering football for nine solid years and the Antelopes have ALWAYS had a nice quarterback; from Garrett Royal, to Bryson Daily, to Jess Hoel. It's crazy this may be the first season where Abernathy doesn't know what to expect from their QB1. I'm hearing rumblings that Kaleb Harrell will be the guy, but I think he is a FCS prospect at tight end with 20 more pounds on his frame, so what does he do? 4-star Cornerback/Wide Receiver Anthony White isn't playing this fall and that will be a major hit to Coach Wiley's game strategy but I think they can finish second in the district and probably see Canadian in the Third round of the playoffs. There are a lot of questions this fall for the 'Lopes. Make sure to keep an eye on Jaxson Hoel; he has the pedigree to make some serious noise this year!

I think Littlefield , Coahoma and Stanton will fight for the last spot in the district and play Canadian in the first round. Littlefield started off fast last year with a 3-0 record but lost their last seven games and missed the playoffs. How about Littlefield versus Muleshoe the first week of the season! Wow!!!
