The playoffs are almost here in the 806, but let’s talk about the week ahead that will determine a lot for our ball clubs. I’m going to break down all the scenarios and what teams will see each other, if the standings play out like we think. Let’s start with 6A..
In 2-6A, we have one team that is already in the playoffs, the Tascosa Rebels and Frenship’s Tigers, who have been eliminated from postseason play. Tascosa can clinch a home-field Bi-District game with a win over Frenship Friday in Wolfforth. WITH A WIN: Tascosa will take on El Paso Americas at home in two weeks, with a loss a Midland Lee win, the Rebels will head to El Paso in the first round.
In 5A DI, all the tams have clinched playoff spots. Coronado has clinched a district title and can win it outright with a victory over Caprock Friday night, which won’t be easy! Amarillo, Caprock and Abilene Cooper also have clinched playoff spots. Lubbock High, Monterey, and Palo Duro have all been eliminated. Amarillo is locked into the fourth spot and will play El Paso Eastwood in El Paso. Caprock will most-likely play El Paso Del Valle in El Paso, while Coronado and Abilene Cooper will have home-field games; Coronado against El Paso Eastlake and AB. Cooper against El Paso Chapin
We have a lot of traveling coming for the three and four seeds in 3-5A’s district; to Fort Worth to be exact. Lubbock-Cooper, ranked #7 in 5A will most-likely win this district and get Fort Worth Eastern Hills at home. WF Rider will aslo get a Fort Worth team at home as well. Randall and Wichita Falls will play in Fort Worth against Northwest and Fort Worth Southwest.
Well, all four of these teams are in the playoffs here already. Dumas has a shot to win 3-4A DI’s district and have a huge match-up against Hereford Friday. The goal for this district is to avoid a third or fourth seed, because WF Hirschi and Springtown are dangerous teams to play in the first round.
So, Estacado and Levelland will either finish 1 or 2 after their game Thursday for the district title and Dalhart has clinched the third seed in 2-4A DII. 1-8 Borger and 1-8 Perryton will play Friday with the winner taking on Midland Greenwood in the Bi-District round of the playoffs, probably in Lubbock.
In 3A DI, one district, 1-3A DI, has all their teams already in and in 2-3A DI, Shallowater can win it outright with a win over Slaton at home Friday. Bushland has also clinched a playoff spot easily and now we will wait for the fourth team that will get in and play Denver City in the First round of the playoffs. Brownfield looks like they will get Slaton in Lubbock, and Bushland will get Kermit as well.
In 2-3A DII, Abernathy can finish first with a win over Idalou Friday and that would drop Idalou to third in the district behind Colorado City. Roosevelt and Coahoma will play for the final playoff spot and a game against the Winner of Crane vs Alpine. The loser will probably play Idalou. Reagan County and Anthony will square off with the loser getting Abernathy and the winner getting Colorado City. In 3-3A DII, Canadian has won the district, Childress will be second, Tulia will be third, and Spearman fourth. Canadian will play Merkel, Childress will play Anson, Tulia will play Ballinger and Spearman will see Cisco if the standings stay the same in 4-3A DII.
In 2-2A DI, there won’t be a three-way tie this season as it’s going to be decided in New Deal as the #5 Lions take on the 11th-ranked Sundown Roughnecks on Friday. Those will be the one and two seeds going in and Floydada and Post will play for the third and fourth seeds as Olton and Hale Center have been eliminated. In 1-2A DI, the Panhandle Panthers will be the one seed and see the loser of Post vs Floydada and West Texas will play the winner of Post vs Floydada. The Winner of New Deal vs Sundown will play Sunray, while the loser of that game will play Sanford-Fritch.All those games may end up at Dick Bivins Stadium.
In 2-2A DII, Farwell and Sudan will play for the district title on Friday in Sudan! The winner will play Van Horn, while the loser will play Wink. Bovina has clinched the third seed in the district and will play Iraan and the winner of Plains vs Seagraves will take on McCamey. In 3-2A DII , Gruver will take on Stratford for the District title. The Winner will get Crosbyton and the loser will get Smyer. Clarendon is the third seed and will play Tahoka and Ralls will take on Vega in the first round. In 5-2A DII, Wellington will take on Wheeler for the district title with the winner getting Electra and the loser getting Archer City. There will be three teams fighting for the third and fourth spot between Munday, Shamrock, and Memphis. Whoever finishes third will play Santo and whoever finishes fourth will play Windthorst.
W’ell be back next week to see what shakes out..
