806 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS: DYLAN JERDEN AND THE NEW DEAL LIONS..

New Deal was one of the hottest teams in 2A last year, going 9-1 in the regular season including wins over Abernathy and a resounding win over Sanford-Fritch in the Bi-District round, 39-8. Eventually the injury bug caught up with the Lions and that hindered their pursuit of a deeper run in the playoffs, falling to Post in the Area Round, 32-21. This season looks like somewhat of a repeat of last year’s success with the return of Jett Whitfield, Kendell Dunn, Division One Wide Receiver DK Blaylock and Dylan Jerden, who I interviewed today and asked him about their team’s chances this season and what he’s been doing this summer as well. Here is New Deal’s schedule for 2018 and our interview with hm below as well!

DYLAN JERDEN INTERVIEW WITH 806HSSC:

C/O 2020 LB/TE DYLAN JERDEN FROM NEW DEAL HS

1. How has the Summer been? What were your goals on improving your game this summer?

DYLAN JERDEN

1. It’s been great so far, I wanted to improve my footwork, so I’ve been working at the school and with Coach Mann on everything from ladders to my break, and overall footwork at WR.

2. I see you’ve been on the camp circuit heavy! What was your favorite camp and why?

DYLAN JERDEN

SMU, it was just a great atmosphere with great coaches. Coach Sonny Dykes is a great coach and has SMU going in a great direction and I was able to get a lot of reps during 1-on-1’s and during individuals; they did a lot of great drills. Plus I was able to run a 4.7 40 so that helped my confidence a lot.

3. The “Deal” has a dangerous squad coming back this fall. What do you think will have to happen in order for the Lions to make a deep run?

DYLAN JERDEN

I think we’re just gonna have to come together and play as family the whole year; from game 1 to game 16. Coach Hill speaks a lot about brotherhood and we have to put that into our game. If someone makes a mistake we gotta pick them up, our offense will be lethal with Jett and DK, me Kendall and Layton, and our line should be pretty good. Our defense is stacked everywhere and we just have to play Lion defense. I know we can make a run all the way to AT&T Stadium and that is the goal. We’ve been talking about it ever since last season ended and I think we just have to stay healthy and click on all cylinders every game.

4. What was your favorite game last year? Why?

DYLAN JERDEN

Easily the Abernathy game. Ever since two-a-days we had that game circled on the calendar, the year before they beat us 21-20 and they went on a huge run and a lot of us in the locker room felt like if we beat them and won District we could’ve easily went on that run. We were ready for that game and it felt like there was about 3,000 people there for the game. It was packed, from the opening kickoff we controlled the game and I was just really proud of my team and the way we played. It’s a night I will never forget!

5. What will prospective college get from you when they come to recruit you?

DYLAN JERDEN

They will get a very hard worker and someone who will do anything for the brother next to him. I can really play any position so I’m versatile wherever they need me. They’ll get someone that will do whatever it takes to win and be a leader.

6. Favorite NFL player and why?

DYLAN JERDEN

Rob Gronkowski. A lot of my coaches and friends say I’m Gronk Jr. so that is really my role model. He is a beast on the field and leads the Patriots to the playoffs and usually the Super Bowl every year. He makes miraculous catches and won’t go down without a fight and in my opinion that’s how I play. He is the player I work my butt off to be.
